Sacred Circles Newsletter

Sometimes life brings us to moments that feel significant.

Not always dramatic.
But enough to make us pause…
and notice what really matters.

I’ve recently been reminded of this in a deep way.

I got one of those calls that we all dread.
One of my best friends was dying.

So I got on a plane and travelled halfway across the world, and what a gift it was to be with her.

So hard to see her in pain.
But so grateful that we got to tell each other we loved each other, and that she knew I cared enough to come.

So honoured that her family called me.
That I got to be by her bedside with them.

And in writing this, I’m reminded that even in the midst of loss, there was also connection.

People gathering.
Stories shared.
Laughter and tears side by side.

I felt so honoured to love her and to be there in my homeland…
to reconnect with old friends like no time had passed,
to create a circle,
to make space for voices speaking what mattered.

A simple act of remembering… together.

It was a reminder that stays with me:

That love carries on.
That presence matters.
That the way we show up for one another is what remains.

That at the end of it all, we can cry freely and remember love at the same time.

That there can still be joy for having known someone…
and even moments of joy in being together amidst the grief.

After nearly a year of battling cancer, and then having her peacefully slip away, I know I will remember the love and the connection most of all.

The long phone calls.
The feeling of at least one person in the world loving me and truly knowing me – including my warts – for so many decades.

We remembered her at 11:11 each day while she was battling it.
It became her special moment, and our moment to send her love.
We even all had t-shirts made for it.

We had a colourful celebration of life.

We remembered the love and the good ole days.

I will never be the same.

And honestly, I’m glad for it.

Because at this stage of our lives, I think many of us are quietly wondering:

• What feels important to me right now?
• Where am I being invited to listen more closely?
• What am I wanting to experience, express, or prioritize while I’m here?

There’s no need to rush the answers.

Paying attention and sitting with the questions is enough.

If it feels supportive to have space for that kind of reflection, there are a few gatherings and offerings slowly taking shape over the coming months.

Spaces to slow down.
Reconnect.
And return to yourself in simple, grounded ways –
without needing to have it all figured out.
